Balaton Lake - The Sea of the Hungarians   The Balaton / Plattensee is the biggest lake of central and Western Europe. The Water surface of the Balaton / Plattensee lake during middle water level is 595 km². The Length of the Balaton is 77km and the width reach from 3km to 14km. The Bank length of the Balaton is approximately 195km. If you wish to make a turn arround with your car, you'll need approximately 2 1/2 - 3 hours The average depth of the Balaton is 3m. The middle water temperature of the Balaton in the summer is between 19°C and 22°C. If it's 2 weeks extremely warm, the water temperature of the Balaton can rise up to 26-30°C. The sweet, weakly alkaline, soft water of the Balaton lake can be regarded due to its calcium-, magnesium and hydraulic carbonate content as a strongly diluted mineral water.
